On Friday, all the students of Acadecap enjoyed a morning of learning about the dunes, the species and plants that live there and helped with the restoration process. A little presentation about reptiles too! Thank you Biodiversity Conservancy International for your time and expertise! We look forward to coming back! The students had an amazing experience and actually, so did I ;) Ask your child all about it and what their favourite part of the day was! This video includes some clips and pictures of the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 students! Enjoy!

The weather is getting warmer and March Break is here, the perfect time for annual winter walk at Stony Swamp. It is lovely to see the kids enjoying nature and also enjoying the time spent together. Our spring walk is just around the corner!
A fantastic morning spent at the Canadian Nature Museum! The first part of the morning was spent in a workshop all about beavers and their habitats. We reinforced some things we already knew about beavers and learned some new things as well. Did you know that a beavers four front teeth have an orangey yellowish colour? Ask your child why that is!
After our workshop, we decided to explore some of the exhibits and displays in the museum, why not?! We had a chance look at the mammal exhibit, which was perfect since we were just talking about mammals! Then, we took a look at some pretty awesome dinosaur displays. A great morning, I'm sure the drive there was fun as well, everything is fun when you're 5 and 6 years old!
Couldn't have been a more beautiful day for the launch of Tree Ottawa. Excited for our partnership and to be part of a great initiative! We will be planting our special sapling soon (unless we are advised to wait until the spring!), this marks the start of many more to come! In January, one of the Tree Ottawa Reps will be coming to AcadeCap to talk to the students about what's to come! After some collaboration with the City of Ottawa and our community, we will be on our way! Planting, watering and helping to counter the depopulation of Ottawa's treescape! Visit the Tree Ottawa website for more information and to find out how you can extend this initiate at home! http://treeottawa.org/2014/05/23/tree-ottawa/
Really nice morning at Stony Swamp yesterday.
Enjoy the video! At the entrance of the Center de Services Guigues What a fantastic morning spent with seniors at Centre de Services Guigues. Welcomed with big smiles, we sat down ready to introduce ourselves. Although some of us were quite shy, we got through the introductions and were on to the questions! We listened intently while our new found friends talked about what they loved to do when they were kids, games they played, the toys they had, the schools they went to and the rules they followed as children. Having previously prepared the questions was certainly a good thing! Their experiences were very similar to our own experiences which was neat to learn. We had a song sung for us and sang a few ourselves. We learned that the Centre de Services Guigues used to be a school for boys and that the building was over 100 years old. Everyone had a fantastic time and promised to be back!
